Quant Quiz

Q1)-A is two years older than B who is twice as old as C. The total of the ages of A, B and C is 27. How old is B?
10
7
9
8
Ans.- A

Let age of C =x. Then,
Age of B =2x
Age of A =2+2x
Total age of A,B and C =27
⇒(2+2x)+2x+x=27
⇒5x=25⇒x=25/5=5
B's age =2x=2×5=10

Q2)-A rectangular parking space is marked out by painting three of its sides. If the length of the unpainted side is 9 feet, and the sum of the lengths of the painted sides is 37 feet, find out the area of the parking space in square feet?
64 sq. ft.
100 sq. ft.
126 sq. ft.
None of these
Ans.- C
Let l=9 feet. Then,
l+2b=37⇒2b=37−l=37−9=28⇒b=28/2=14 feet
Area =lb=9×14=126 square feet

Q3)-Three pipes A, B and C can fill a tank from empty to full in 30 minutes, 20 minutes, and 10 minutes respectively. When the tank is empty, all the three pipes are opened. A, B and C discharge chemical solutions P,Q and R respectively. What is the proportion of the solution R in the liquid in the tank after 3 minutes?
5/11
6/11
7/11
8/11
Ans.- B
Ratio of water filled by A,B,C per minute
=1/30:1/20:1/10=2:3:6
Proportion of R any time =6/2+3+6=6/11

Q4)-What is the probability of getting a number less than 4 when a die is rolled?
1/2
1/6
1/3
1/4
Ans.- A

Q5)-The average of 20 numbers is zero. Of them, How many of them may be greater than zero, at the most?
1
19
20
0
Ans.- B
Average of 20 numbers = 0
=> Sum of 20 numbers/20=0
=> Sum of 20 numbers = 0
Hence at the most, there can be 19 positive numbers.
(Such that if the sum of these 19 positive numbers is x, 20th number will be -x)

Q6)-A vendor bought bananas at 6 for a rupee. How many for a rupee must he sell to gain 20%?
3
4
5
6
Ans.- C
CP of 6 bananas = 1
Gain = 20 %
SP of 6 Bananas = 1 x (120/100) = 12/10
The number of bananas he should sell for Rs 1 for a gain of 20 % = 10/12 x 6 = 10/2 = 5

Q7)-The banker's discount on a bill due 4 months hence at 15% is Rs. 420. What is the true discount?
Rs. 410
Rs. 400
Rs. 380
Rs. 390
Ans.- B

Q8)-A man's speed with the current is 15 km/hr and the speed of the current is 2.5 km/hr. The man's speed against the current is:
8.5 km/hr
9 km/hr
10 km/hr.
12.5 km/hr
Ans.- C
Man's speed with the current = 15 km/hr
=> speed of the man + speed of the current = 15 km/hr
speed of the current is 2.5 km/hr
Hence, speed of the man = 15 - 2.5 = 12.5 km/hr
man's speed against the current = speed of the man - speed of the current
= 12.5 - 2.5 = 10 km/hr

Q9)-How much time will it take for an amount of Rs. 900 to yield Rs. 81 as interest at 4.5% per annum of simple interest?
4 year
2 year
1 year
3 year
Ans.- B
P = Rs.900
SI = Rs.81
T = ?
R = 4.5%
T= (100 x SI ) / PR = (100 x 81 ) / 900 x 4.5 = 2 years

Q10)-A bank offers 5% compound interest calculated on half-yearly basis. A customer deposits Rs. 1600 each on 1st January and 1st July of a year. At the end of the year, the amount he would have gained by way of interest is:
